MDDP's Pool side Barbecue

On the 30th September 2006, the MDDP organised a pool side potluck/barbecue at the home of Wilfred Spykerman in Pantai Hillpark, Kuala Lumpur. The gathering was attended by the families of Wilfred Spykerman, Corinne Jansz, Deborah Jansz, Dennis De Witt, Jesse van den Driesen, Pamela Hendroff together with Celine Marbeck, Joy Leembruggen, Marcia Nicholas and Charles McGuire. The guest of honour was Mr. Nigel Lau of KLM.

At the gathering Mr. Nigel Lau was invited to speak about visiting the Netherlands and flying to the Netherlands with KLM to visit the Pasar Malam Besar next year. Mr. Nigel Lau also informed the group that KLM is able to provide a discount of 10% on its flight tickets for groups of at least 10 persons travelling in a group.

He was also willing to assist by working with the MDDP to accommodate the Dutch descendants who plan to make the trip.

At the same time, Celine Marbeck also explained to the group of her experience at the Pasar Malam Besar, the cooking demonstrations that she had done there and what the Pasar Malam Besar is all about.

The Pasar Malam Besar is held annually during the summer over a period of 12 days and occupies an area of approximately 20,000 sq. metres at the Malieveld in The Hague. Organised by the Tong-Tong foundation, it is said to be the largest Eurasian festival in the world, with over 120,000 visitors annually.
