Dinner with the Dutch Ambassador

On 11th April 2003, the participants of the Malaysian Dutch Descendants Project were invited for a dinner with H.E. John von Mühlen, Ambassador of the Royal Netherlands Embassy at Kuala Lumpur. Each participant received an invitation directly from the Dutch Embassy.

The delightful dinner was held at the Ambassador's residence at Jalan Langgak Golf in Kuala Lumpur. The Project's participants received a warm welcome from the Ambassador and his wife and were treated to a delightful European meal. Later, our gracious hosts mingled with the guests as drinks, Dutch liquor, coffee, cigars and of course authentic Dutch cheese were served.

The purpose of the dinner hosted by the Ambassador and his wife was so that the Ambassador could personally but casually meet some of we Dutch Descendants left in Malaysia. The Ambassador also intended to learn a little more about our forgotten Malaysian Dutch community.

The dinner was also be attended by the Embassy's First Secretary, Mr. Noordermer, his wife and a conservation architect named Mr. Deiderik Six from the Netherlands who was visiting Malaysia at the invitation of the Malacca State Government. Mr. Deiderik Six is a descendant of a former Malacca Dutch Governor.
