Queen's Day 2006

Queen's Day 2006 was celebrated by the Royal Netherlands Embassy on 2nd May 2006 in the grand ballroom of the prestigious JW Merriot Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Some 500 guests of the Embassy attended the Netherlands National Day celebration.

Guests of this year's Queen's Day were treated to a variety of delicious traditional Dutch food and also some popular Malaysian dishes. Malaysian Dutch descendants were particularly please to be able to sample the traditional Dutch food served, like fresh herring, croquette and an assortment of Dutch cheeses. Even the local waiters and waitresses were in traditional Dutch garbs. It was a good opportunity so sample a little of the Dutch culture there.

Malaysian Dutch descendants who attended the event in Kuala Lumpur were from the families: De Wind, De Witt, Goonting, Hendroff, Jansen, Leembruggen, Marbeck, Nicholas, Schokman, Spykerman, van Dort, van den Driesen, van Geyzel and Westerhout.

Queen's Day was also celebrated a few days earlier by the Dutch consul in Penang. Dutch descendants in Penang were also invited for the event. Those who attended the event there also had the opportunity to meet the ambassador, H.E. Lody Embrechts, for the first time.

The Project sent a congratulatory message on behalf of all participants of the Project to Queen Beatrix via the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
